How does the Oral-B Pro 3000 work?

The Oral-B produces a 3D cleaning action, that is, it rotates, oscillates, pulsates, and rotates, to deliver a more thorough and deeper clean. This incredible cleaning action is supported by a professionally-inspired brush head that features a specialized polishing cup.

Apart from that, the Pro 3000 features three different cleaning modes that offer customized cleaning actions that suit specific dental conditions. These modes include the Daily Clean, Sensitive, and Gum Care. With them, you have different options to enjoy a fulfilling brushing experience.

What’s In the box?

  • Oral-B Pro 3000 rechargeable toothbrush
  • 1 x CrossAction brush head
  • Charging station
  • Storage compartment for toothbrush heads (stores up to four brush heads)
  • Instruction manual

Inside the box, you’ll also find a coupon that offers a discount on replacement brush hands. Since you are expected to replace your brush head after three months as recommended by dentists, we advise that you hold on to the coupon.

Size Guide

  • Length – 19.75 cm
  • Thickness – 3 cm
  • Width – 2.5 cm
  • Weight – 125 grams/1.3 pounds

Oral-B Pro 3000 options

The Oral-B 3000 electric toothbrush is not alone in its league, it has two variants. Although both are different variants, only the color of the toothbrush handle and brush head separate them, so you can argue that they’re technically the same. These options are:

  • White variant – Comes with an all-round white brush handle and a CrossAction brush head
  • Black variant – Comes with a black and white brush handle and a black CrossAction brush head

The white variant is the more common option among users.

We must note that there has been an upgrade to the Oral-B Pro 3000. The upgrade is the Oral-B Smart 3000. As you might have expected, the Smart 3000 offers some upgraded features.

For instance, the Pro 3000 comes with a Nickel Metal Hydride battery that offers at least 7 days of battery life, while the Smart 3000 comes with a Lithium-ion battery offering at least 14 days of battery life. In addition to this, the motor in Pro 3000 is marginally less powerful than the one in the Smart 3000. It offers 8,800 oscillations and 40,000 pulsations compared to the up to 9,900 oscillations and 45,000 pulsations of the Smart 3000.

Design and accessories

The Oral-B Pro 3000 electric toothbrush boasts a fairly simple design. Despite having mechanisms inside the handle, it’s fairly sleek and light to move comfortably inside the mouth, helping to reach between and behind the teeth.

As mentioned earlier, the Oral-B Pro 3000 is available in an all-round white finish and white & black finish. The white model, which is all-white, comes with white accessories. The black model, on the other hand, comes with a black front panel, a black rubber grip, a black brush head, a white charger, and a white brush head box.

A major concern among users is how well a stay toothbrush can stay in the hand, even in wet conditions. The Pro 3000 doesn’t leave any doubt here with its sturdy handle that gives a good grip and prevents the device from falling off. It also appears to have just the right size for easy handling and comfortable grip. When wet, this brush relies on a strong rubber grip as well as contours, to prevent it from slipping off your hands.

The power button is located in the handle’s upper half in between the contoured grips. The button is white but it has a grey power icon on it. The icon’s contrasting color is designed to stand the button out.

You want your toothbrush to have a power button that can’t be easily activated and is also soft enough to be pressed without much resistance. Luckily for you, the Pro 3000’s button has a great resistance when pressed. People with limited dexterity can find that very helpful.

Other features

The Bluetooth, battery & charging icon, and the Oral-B logo in grey color, are located at the brush handle’s lower third. These icons feature a LED behind them and are transparent. The LED illuminates these icons whenever they’re activated.

The handle houses the battery and all other important mechanisms that help the toothbrush perform effectively. The manufacturer says the handle is waterproof, meaning it can be rinsed under running water and used in the shower.

The base of the Oral-B Pro 3000 handle features a recess where the pin on the provided charging stand can be connected to. The base of the brush is designed to stand upright even without the charging stand.

A metal prong is located at the brush handle’s top. The brush head connects to this metal prong and feeds the power from the motor of the brush.

Pressure sensor

The pressure sensor is located just below the metal prong on the handle’s rear side. The sensor is designed to prevent you from exerting too much on your teeth while brushing. Some toothbrushes have a pressure sensor that is not visible but the Oral-B Pro 3000 has a visible sensor. The sensor on the Pro 3000 is a red plastic panel. When you brush, this sensor monitors the amount of force you are exerting on your teeth. If it detects too much force, it will activate and the LED behind the panel will light up. The bright red light will catch your attention and help you reduce the pressure you’re exerting on your teeth to prevent any damage.

Apart from the illumination, the pressure sensor also alerts you by decreasing the brush head’s speed and changing the sound of the motor. These signs will persist until you relieve the pressure. With an electric toothbrush, all you need to do is glide the bristles across your teeth surfaces and the bristle movements will do the cleaning. You don’t have much to worry about if you find yourself activating the sensor often. You’ll get used to the movements over time and prevent damage to your teeth and gums.

Cleaning modes

The Oral-B Pro 3000 features three cleaning modes that give you different cleaning actions. They are Daily Clean, Sensitive, and Gum Care. As you might have guessed, each of these cleaning modes offers different levels of rotations, pulsations, and oscillations. These actions help to get different cleaning effects on the teeth. For example, the Sensitive mode cleans the teeth and gums with lesser brush movements. The reduced movements ensure softer treatment.

  1. The power button activates each cleaning mode.
  2. The Daily Clean mode activates after turning the device on.
  3. Press the power button again to change to the Sensitive mode.
  4. Press the button a third time to activate the Gum Care mode.
  5. A fourth press will turn your brush off. You can also turn it off by pressing and holding the button for few seconds at any time.

While these settings appear straightforward, they can be frustrating because there’s no dedicated button for changing the modes as you will find in some top toothbrushes. Not only that, the handle has no icons that illuminate to let you know which mode you have selected. Of course, there’s a high tendency that you would get used to the situation over time but we feel it would have been nice to have icons and LEDs behind them.

However, the smartphone app can tell you which mode you’re on. The Bluetooth connectivity on the Oral-B Pro 3000 connects to the app. The app shows the current cleaning mode of your brush, helping you to track the modes seamlessly.

Battery Life

The Oral-B Pro offers 7+ days of battery life. When the battery starts to deplete, the charging icon starts to flash red to alert you of the need to recharge it. The battery icon also flashes green when the brush is being charged. But we don’t like the fact that there’s no signal to tell the amount of charge remaining.

Toothbrush heads

A toothbrush is not completed without the head. One CrossAction brush head is included in the box with the Oral-B Pro 3000. This head is designed to deliver a nice all-round clean of your teeth. This doesn’t mean you can’t change to other brush heads if you want to. The Oral-B brush heads can be interchanged, so you can go for other replacement brush heads that are compatible with the Pro 3000. We will go into the details of the compatible replacement brush heads later on.

Timer

If you didn’t already know, dentists recommend that you brush for two minutes, twice daily. If you had not been following this recommendation before, the Oral-B Pro 3000 is designed to help you out. You don’t need a stopwatch to brush for two minutes if you have the Pro 3000. It has a built-in timer that tracks your brushing time and alerts you after two minutes of brushing your teeth.

2 minute timer in place

Quadpacer

There’s also the quadpacer that helps you achieve a thorough and complete clean. Imagine you break your mouth into four sections: upper left, upper right, lower left, and lower right. You should clean each section for 30 seconds. The pacer helps you brush the four sections evenly. At 30-second intervals, you will feel a slight pause in the brush motor telling you to change the quadrant. After cleaning the four sections, you would have spent a total of two minutes cleaning your mouth. Once the two minutes are up, you will feel three brief pauses in the motor.

While it’s important to brush for the full two minutes, it’s equally important to use the right technique. Brushing the four sections of your mouth equally means a thorough cleaning exercise that improves your oral health

Which brush heads are compatible with the Oral-B Pro 3000?

As mentioned previously, it’s important for your oral health that you replace your toothbrush head every three months or probably sooner if the bristles are frayed. Not all toothbrush heads are compatible with the Oral-B Pro 3000, there are specific Oral-B brush heads that are compatible with it. These brush heads have indicator/blue-colored bristles that gradually discolor over three months. They signal the need for a replacement.

Key Features of the Oral-B Pro 3000 explained – and how they work

Earlier, we listed all features you’ll find in the Oral-B Pro 3000. This Oral-B Pro 3000 review will dissect the five most important features of the toothbrush below:

Cleaning Technology

An electric toothbrush is powered by an inbuilt motor to deliver the necessary movements that get rid of stains and plaque. The Oral-B Pro 3000 features an incredible cleaning technology that delivers 40,000 pulsations as well as 8,800 oscillations per minute. These movements are powerful enough to reach the deepest parts of your mouth, thus leaving it healthier and cleaner than ever before.

You could even get 10% more brushing power from the upgraded Oral-B Smart 3000 – 45,000 pulsations and 9,9000 oscillations per minute.

The brushing technology helps break up nearly all plaque between the teeth and along the gum line. It also helps to reach the hard-to-reach areas and deliver a complete cleaning. You can trust the pulsations, rotations, and oscillations, to remove up to 97% of plaque. Therefore, you’re able to keep cavities forming. Consistent use of this powerful toothbrush also guarantees whiter teeth and healthier gums in only two weeks.

Timer And Pacer

As we mentioned earlier, the importance of a timer and pacer cannot be overemphasized. They help to develop the right brushing technique that transforms your oral health for the better. By helping you track your brushing time, the two features help you maintain the right oral hygiene.

The quadpacer tracks your brushing per quadrant, alerting you every 30-second intervals of the need to jump to another quadrant. By the time you complete the cycle, you will get the signal that you’ve brushed your teeth for the recommended two minutes.

If you ever need to pause your brushing for few seconds, you can switch the brush off as the handle is designed to memorize the used time. But the timer will automatically restart if you switch the brush off longer than 30 seconds.

Brushing Modes

The top electric toothbrushes don’t offer just cleaning mode, they offer multiple options. The Oral-B Pro 3000, in particular, offers three different cleaning modes that can be switched with the help of the button as we explained. While you can’t detect the current cleaning mode on the handle, the smartphone app can help you detect it. Of course, you can use these cleaning modes without the app, but it will be quite difficult to decipher the mode you’re on without the app. Let’s discuss the three cleaning modes below:

Daily Clean mode: This is the regular cleaning mode that is recommended for a daily tooth cleaning routine. Using a 3D movement, it delivers thorough and complete cleaning to help remove plaque from your teeth and gums.

Sensitive mode: As you might have guessed, this mode is designed to help those with sensitive teeth. If you have sensitive teeth or you want gentle brushing, we advise that you patronize this mode for your daily oral care routine. While the sensitive mode lowers the oscillations’ speed to gently clean, it still delivers thorough action enough to make your teeth whiter. This mode can also help greatly if you’re a first-time user trying to get used to the movements of an electric toothbrush.

Gum Care mode: This mode is the last in the Oral-B Pro 3000. Just like the name suggests, it is designed to care for and massage the gums. If you have sensitive gums, this mode is just right for you. This mode offers gentle brush movements to stimulate your gums and give you a painless and enjoyable brushing experience.

Visible pressure sensor

Many people started their oral care routine with a manual toothbrush, so it’s not strange that they apply too much pressure when they start using an electric toothbrush. While a manual toothbrush requires you to scrub your teeth, an electric toothbrush only requires you to glide it through the teeth surfaces; the brush movements do the cleaning.

Thankfully, the Oral-B Pro 3000 is designed to protect you from applying too much pressure on your teeth and gums. It uses the pressure sensor to monitor the pressure being exerted. If the sensor detects that you’re brushing too hard, it alerts you (a LED on the handle flashes red and pulsations reduce) to relieve the pressure. This action helps you to avoid sores and inflammation by keeping your tooth enamel and gums protected.

Bluetooth technology

The Oral-B Pro 3000 features Bluetooth connectivity that empowers the toothbrush to connect to a smartphone app. This app gives you real-time brushing instructions to help you develop the right brushing habits. Apart from analyzing your brushing, the Oral-B Pro 3000 toothbrush stores up to 20 brushing sessions which you can sync when next you use your phone. As mentioned earlier, the app also informs you of which cleaning mode you are currently using to brush.

Installation Of the Oral-B Pro 3000

When you buy the Oral-B Pro 3000, you can start using it out of the box because there’s no real installation to do. However, you’ll need to replace your brush head whenever it’s worn out or whenever you want to try another type of head. You can separate the head from the handle by simply tugging them apart. To install a new brush head, align the hole in the head with the rod in the handle, then push them together until you hear a snapping sound that indicates they’re engaged.

Settings

In this Oral-B Pro 3000 review, we have severally discussed how to set the cleaning modes. But we are yet to discuss how to connect the toothbrush with the smartphone app. Firstly, you need to download the Oral-B app from your app store and install it. You can be able to use this app only if your phone’s Bluetooth version is 4.0 and higher.

Oral-B app – Google Play Store
Oral-B app – Apple App store

Secondly, click on the Bluetooth icon on your brush handle to switch it on, then turn on your phone’s Bluetooth. Open your app and connect the two devices via Bluetooth. The app is user-friendly and you’ll be guided on screen.

Once connected, you can manage some functions within the settings menu. You can also create or sign in to an existing Oral-B account, to get your data saved. When you start brushing your teeth, the app will display a timer as well as a graphic counting you through the recommended two-minute cycle. It will also show you the current cleaning mode and alert you if the pressure sensor gets activated. Apart from that, the graphics offer you an indication of when to move to a different quadrant of the mouth to achieve equal clean.

The data is logged after you’ve finished brushing. This data is available for review, and it can help you track your oral health routine and try to improve it.

Short term use of the Oral-B Pro 3000

  1. As explained above, connect the brush to your smartphone app for real-time brushing guidance but you can decide not to if you wish.
  2. Apply the right amount of toothpaste onto your brush head.
  3. Spread the paste over your teeth with the help of the brush head. This action will get an even layer of paste across your teeth.
  4. Turn on your toothbrush, select your preferred mode, and gently move it around each quadrant of your mouth. You should switch quadrants when the timer buzzes. Turn the brush off when the final timer buzzes.
  5. Rinse your mouth and the brush head. Also, disconnect the toothbrush from your phone.

Long term use of the Oral-B Pro 3000

When it comes to Oral-B products, you should have no doubts about their quality. The company is reputed to manufacture reliable and effective electric toothbrushes.  This reputation has made its products earned the approval of the American Dental Association (ADA). The Oral-B Pro 3000 is surely not an exception.

While you can’t fault the robust design and construction of this model, the battery is not the most reliable out there. There’s a likelihood of the battery failing after repeated charges. Replacing this battery is not easy because it’s built-in. However, you don’t have much to worry about if the battery fails within two years of purchase because it will be covered by a warranty.

Caring for your Oral-B Pro 3000

How well you care for your Oral-B Pro 3000 will determine its longevity. You must give it the best of treatments to enjoy the value for your money. While the Oral-B Pro 3000 is waterproof, we advise that you don’t immerse it in water to be on the safer side. Also, you should pay attention to the battery signal and recharge promptly and correctly. It’s important to take all precautions because the warranty doesn’t cover user damage.
